Nice Côte d’Azur Airport: Skip the €90-ish taxi unless you are sharing it or arriving very late. Take tram L2 from the airport to Nice Saint-Augustin, walk into the adjacent station, then take a TER to Monaco–Monte-Carlo. Allow about 55–70 minutes door to door and roughly €7–10 total. The direct airport coach is useful if its timetable suits your flight, but it is usually slower in Riviera traffic and costs materially more.
Monaco–Monte-Carlo station: This is the practical rail gateway, underground beneath Monte-Carlo. Frequent TER trains link Nice (about 25 minutes), Menton (about 10 minutes) and Ventimiglia, Italy (about 35–45 minutes). The station’s exits and public lifts matter: use the exit nearest your hotel rather than hauling luggage up Monaco’s hills.
Nice-Ville station: For arrivals on long-distance French rail, change here for a TER to Monaco–Monte-Carlo. The rail journey is about 25 minutes; allow 40–60 minutes including a realistic connection. Do not take a taxi from Nice just because the map makes Monaco look close: coastal traffic can turn a 30-minute run into much longer.
