Getting in

• Tribhuvan International Airport: Take an official pre-paid taxi from the airport counter to Thamel or central Kathmandu: roughly 20 minutes in very light traffic, commonly up to an hour in daytime congestion, and about NPR 700–1,300 depending on time and destination. This is the sensible arrival transfer with bags; ignore the men calling out for taxis and hotels outside the terminal. An airport shuttle runs via NAC, New Road, Durbar Marg, Thamel Chowk and Lainchaur, but it is best only if you travel light, know your stop, and are not arriving late.
