Füssen railway station: This is the useful arrival point: the Altstadt is an easy walk, and buses 73 and 78 run onward to Hohenschwangau/Neuschwanstein. From Munich Hauptbahnhof, direct regional trains run roughly every two hours and take about 2 hours; more frequent itineraries require a change, commonly around Buchloe. Expect roughly €30–45 one way at flexible fares, or check regional day-ticket options if travelling with others.
Munich Airport: Take the S-Bahn (S1 or S8) to München Hauptbahnhof, then a regional train to Füssen. Allow about 3¼–4 hours airport-to-Füssen including the transfer; roughly €35–55 is a sensible flexible-fare budget. A direct airport-to-Füssen coach can be quicker in connection terms on some schedules—around 3 hours and about €20–26—but only use it if its departure actually fits your flight; do not pay for a private castle transfer by default.
Memmingen Airport (Allgäu Airport): Memmingen is geographically closer than Munich. Use the airport-city connection toward Füssen/its rail link; allow about 1–1½ hours when connections behave and budget around €15–25. Check the timetable closely: this is not a turn-up-and-go airport rail service, and a poorly timed connection erases its advantage over Munich.
Innsbruck Airport: This is viable only if you are already in Tirol. Travel via Innsbruck toward Reutte, Vils or Ulrichsbrücke-Füssen, then use bus 74 to Füssen; bus 71 from Vils goes directly toward the castles. Allow about 3 hours from Innsbruck to Füssen, plus airport time, and expect a cross-border regional fare rather than a bargain airport transfer.
